People

The following are some Syntec people you may encounter.

Colin Westlake
Colin Westlake - Managing Director
After studying Physics at Oxford, Colin joined Decca-Racal where he worked on part of the guidance system for the Sea Wolf sea-to-air missile system. He then joined Schlumberger wireline services where he worked in the field in South America, gathering and interpreting geophysical data from oil and gas exploration wells. He spent time in a number of very remote locations running small teams engaged in time and mission critical services in a high pressure environment. On his return to the UK he spent some years in property development before returning to his technical roots joining Syntec in the first year of its life.
When not working, Colin enjoys windsurfing, sailing and skiing.
James Campbell
James Campbell - Operations Director
James has operated his own businesses in electronic systems design and manufacturing in the automation and telecommunications sectors for the last 38 years. Products included remote monitoring, command and control systems for water and sewage pumping stations for regional UK water authorities, intruder and environmental detection systems, fixed and mobile radio telecommunications products and a dispatch system for London’s largest black cab operator. In 1998, as the UK’s telecoms market was being deregulated, James co-founded Syntec, finance being provided solely by the founders' funds.
Outside Syntec, James enjoys spending time with his four children, music, very occasional running, refurbishing his house and flying helicopters.
Jonathan Graham
Jonathan Graham - Finance Director
After studying engineering at Cambridge Jonathan worked for and invested in small businesses in construction and leisure. He spent five years at Advent Venture Partners calculating, analysing and reporting on performance of the managed venture capital funds. Advent had an emphasis on communications and IT, providing Jonathan with valuable insights into reasons for successes and failure. Whilst working as a partner in a consultancy advising venture capital managers, Jonathan was approached by the founders of Syntec who wanted to buy out one of their number. He ended up joining the board as finance director and then bought out the remaining investor to create a business wholly owned by its executive directors and which remains free from external investors.
Beyond Syntec, Jonathan is a keen singer, active cyclist, table-tennis player and classic yacht sailor as well as being an energetic churchwarden of one of Norfolk’s more unusual Grade I listed churches.

Danny Cresswell

Danny takes a consultative approach to his role as head of sales at Syntec, managing both its direct and indirect sales channels, and he gets great satisfaction from helping clients increase the performance and effectiveness of their contact centres, often under tight budgets and short lead-times.
Away from work Danny enjoys spending time with friends and family and is a firm believer that his home gym will stop him from making excuses not to get fit!

Alex Cooksey - Customer Services Manager
Alex studied computer science at Southampton University before joining EccoWare. There he looked after quality assurance and customer services, working directly with proprietary derivatives traders (those who trade their own money) and learning first-hand how to deal with customers whose entire fortunes rest on whether your software works as promised. He then joined the Department for Transport as PA to the head of property, helping to divest the government of a large portion of what was then the second largest property empire in the country. Alex joined Syntec in 2005 and looks after customer services, helping to ensure that each Syntec customer comes across to their own customers as best they can.

Mike Dewey
Mike Dewey - North American Customer Liaison
Mike has spent 20+ years working as an engineer in all areas of the Telecommunications industry. He was fortunate to start work for a small interconnect that had many divisions and coworkers with many years of knowledge to share. Since then he has worked in various CLECs' central offices and contracted to install and program Lucent (now Avaya) equipment of all types. This varied experience has allowed Mike to form a uniquely broad perspective on the comms industry, looking at problems from a 10,000 foot view. During this time he has developed an extensive knowledge of both ISDN and SIP- based telephony. In the 12 years before Syntec, Mike has run a successful consulting company based out of Golden, Co., taking on projects both remotely and onsite all across the United States.
Born in Alaska and into commercial fishing in earlier life, Mike's 'let's get it done' attitude comes from outdoor life in a harsh climate. Spare time is spent with his son and wife, ski-ing, mountain biking and hiking in the Rockies. He hopes one day to pick up his bass guitar on a regular basis again.
